Enjoyed the show, the singing and dancing were wonderful but the first half was a bit tedious, knowing the film I understood what was being interpreted my brother was totally lost.

An enjoyable evening
18 October 2017
I recall the film version of this very well & the performance held fairly accurately to the film.
The unsung heroes of this performance were the set designers who used a. Ariety of visual arts to create the various environs of Paris locations.
Well sung, well danced & well acted. Well done!

A Magic Evening
17 October 2017
It was the birthday present for a dear friend of mine . She is a very fine painter in love with dance and theatre and Jewish as well, so she recognises the background and feeling of the American Musical tradition. We had great expectations but we were not dissappointed. I loved the comparitively small band and even at the end the fact that the cast was not as huge as it seemed on stage. Even the brilliant sets lacked any sort of static quality. The production moved like quick silver. With beautifully contrasted principals the story and emotions were engauged through the set numbers. This took a leaf out of modern opera production ( which we had been studying at the V&A) . It paid homage to Gershwin and the Film version but completly recreated a new work of art. We left dazzled and delighted.

Spectacular
10 August 2017
This performance was one of the most magical productions I have ever had the privilege of experiencing. I doesn't get much better to have an iconic Broadway production played out in the West End..a sensory overload! The acting was superb, the dancing made to look effortlessly flawless, and the props were beautiful.

A Surprising Gem... unexpected but beautiful!
20 July 2017
A stunning if not somewhat unexpected production...
Extravagant high intensity jazz numbers, kick lines and fast tempo songs form only a very small part of beautiful musical. As the inhabitants of Paris recover from Nazi occupation of their city, "the dark years" are still in the people's minds, however through the mediums of dance, art and love they are on the brink of change, ultimately pushing for freedom; there is certainly a depth to the romantic plot being portrayed.
Whilst there are a few typical "musical theatre" routines (including a glitzy top hat and tails tap number), a significant aspect of this show is the inclusion of ballet and contemporary dance. The director and choreographer for the show trained with The Royal Ballet School, as did the female lead, this the calibre of dace is particularly noteworthy. If you are unfamiliar with dance-based productions it is worth mentioning monologue/dialogue and narration is not heavily used in the production, and neither are lyrics, rather the impeccable dance and timeless music of Gershwin are the key methods of storytelling.

A Marvellous Production
15 July 2017
Why marvellous? Because the music is by a really great composer, the dancers are of the highest calibre having trained at The Royal Ballet School and Elmhurst Ballet School etc. and they could sing too. The sets of Paris were quite beautiful and the costumes ditto. The orchestra was excellent as well. My only problem is, why does there have to be so much amplification? Presumably because most people go to too many pop concerts and are already half deaf.

Great fun
3 May 2017
The musical was wonderful! The singing voices were strong and could be heard above the orchestra. The actors and dancing were great fun, too! I was especially impressed with the stage design and lighting, and found them enhancing the overall experience very effectively. The orchestra was marvellous and definitely added to the enjoyment of the evening.

Completely mesmerised by the music and the fabulous dancing in this wonderful theatrical experience. The only slightly weak link was the storyline which probably could be levelled against most musicals.
